Uisce Éireann will install a new treated water reservoir at Kilmurray Water Treatment Plant and lay an extra 5km water main to Ballivor, boosting capacity, quality and resilience for around 2,500 customers, with works due to finish in the first half of 2027.
Works are due to start next week in Ballivor, Co Meath, to expand storage and upgrade the local water network, strengthening supplies for homes and businesses.
The programme comprises two concurrent projects: a new reservoir at Kilmurray Water Treatment Plant to increase storage, and an additional five kilometres of pipeline from the plant into Ballivor village.
The reservoir will provide secure potable storage designed to guarantee at least 24 hours' capacity, enhancing the reliability of service for approximately 2,500 Uisce Éireann customers in Ballivor.
The scheme will also modernise the treatment processes at Kilmurray to further improve drinking water quality. All activity will take place within the existing site boundary and off public roads.
The second element will see a new five‑kilometre main installed alongside the current pipe, running from Kilmurray along the R156 to the centre of Ballivor, to accommodate growth across the wider area.
Together, the upgrades will increase the network's supply capacity, improve performance and ease pressure on the existing system, supporting both current needs and future social and economic development.
Matthew Thomson, Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "These works are an important investment in Ballivor's water infrastructure. As well as increasing storage capacity and ensuring resilience and security of supply, the upgrades will support new housing and future social and economic growth in Ballivor."
Matthew Thomson added: "We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause. We would like to thank the local community for their patience while we deliver these essential improvements."
The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities Ltd. and Shareridge and are expected to be completed in the first half of 2027.
