The Bray Transport Interchange in County Wicklow has been delivered by David Walsh Civil Engineering, working to designs prepared by Atkins Réalis Consultancy and supported throughout by Iarnród Éireann.
Commissioned by Wicklow County Council with funding from the Department of Transport through the National Transport Authority (NTA), the project provides a modern and safer transport interchange at Bray Train Station.
The works included the realignment of bus facilities, providing improved parking and taxi spaces, along with upgraded pedestrian and cycling infrastructure through widened footpaths and new pedestrian crossings. Landscaping and public realm improvements have also been completed, with new seating areas, tree planting and cycle parking, creating a more accessible and attractive environment.
The new facilities were officially opened on September 17, 2025 by Minister of State with responsibility for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports, Séan Canney, on behalf of Wicklow County Council.
Speaking at the event, Minister Canney said: "I'm delighted to see the progress that has been made by the Active Travel teams within Wicklow County Council and the National Transport Authority to deliver this transformational project. Not only will this scheme offer safer facilities for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users, it will encourage a shift towards more sustainable forms of transport – walking, cycling, taking the bus or train. This project will be of great value to the local community by creating safer, user-friendly infrastructure that can be enjoyed by all."
Interim Chief Executive of the NTA, Hugh Creegan, added: "These improvements at Bray Dart Station mean commuters in north Wicklow will now benefit from a safer, more accessible and better-connected transport interchange. The NTA is delighted to have supported Wicklow County Council in delivering this transformation, which will encourage more commuters to choose sustainable and active travel for their everyday journeys."
The interchange now offers seamless connections between walking, cycling, taxis, buses and rail services, improving safety and accessibility while supporting Wicklow County Council's Active Travel Vision to encourage sustainable travel options across the county.
