Residents, sports clubs and community users are being advised of temporary measures at Gortgonis as momentum builds on the new school and the forthcoming recreation centre project.
From the end of June, the existing car park and a section of the running track will close to enable works linked to the school development, with construction of the school building scheduled to begin in July.
To maintain access over the summer, Council has arranged for the track to remain open. Although a full 400m circuit will not be available, minor works will allow continued use of the facility during this phase.
The programme represents a significant investment in Gortgonis and Coalisland, set to enhance education, sport and community provision for years to come.
During construction, users are encouraged to utilise alternative town centre car parks and, where appropriate, access the site via the canal path. Residents are also advised that road works associated with the new school will begin in the coming months and may require temporary traffic management, including potential road closures.
As part of the works, street and track lighting within the affected area will be disconnected. Survey activity for the next stage of the recreation centre project may also necessitate short, temporary site closures.
Construction of the new recreation centre is anticipated to commence in early 2027, with an estimated build programme of around 15 months.
