Radius Housing has started work on a new social housing development at Drumgullion in Newry, bringing 21 high-quality homes to help meet rising demand in the area.
The scheme will offer a range of family homes, including properties designed for wheelchair users, to support diverse needs across the local community.
The housing mix comprises:
- 13 three-person, two-bedroom houses;
- 3 five-person, three-bedroom houses;
- 2 five-person, three-bedroom wheelchair houses;
- 1 three-person, two-bedroom wheelchair house; and
- 2 two-person, one-bedroom apartments.
The development cost is £5.18 million, with £2.6 million in private investment and £2.5 million in grant funding. Planning permission was granted in 2020 for the site north of 78 Armagh Road, and the project is being delivered through a Design & Build agreement with GEDA Construction.
Site works began on 31 March 2026, with set-up currently in progress. The homes are scheduled to be handed over in September 2028.
On completion, the development is expected to accommodate around 89 residents, providing energy-efficient, affordable and modern homes in a well-connected location close to schools, retail and local services. It is within walking distance of St Colman's College, St Joseph's Boys' High School and Damolly Retail Park.
John McLean, CEO of Radius Housing, said: "Developments like Drumgullion are essential in helping to address the continuing demand for high-quality social housing in Newry and across Northern Ireland.
