Construction firm Farrans has been named a finalist in two categories at the Irish Construction Industry Awards 2026, which will be staged at the Dublin Convention Centre on 16 October.
The awards recognise the most innovative people and organisations advancing excellence across Ireland's construction sector. Farrans is shortlisted for Contractor of the Year and Best Place to Work.
For Contractor of the Year, the company's submission highlighted project delivery, operational excellence, innovation, social value, client satisfaction, and health and safety performance.
Its flagship Irish scheme is the Multi-Supplier Framework Agreement for the provision of water and wastewater network services to Uisce Éireann. Farrans is active in the north-west region, covering Donegal, Sligo, Roscommon, Galway, Cavan, Leitrim, Monaghan and Mayo.
Operating across a wide, largely rural geography with many stakeholders, the framework model has enabled faster, better outcomes for water customers, supported by a highly engaged team ready to respond as needed.
In the first year of the framework (2024), Farrans laid more than 36,000 metres of rehabilitation mains, connected 478 new properties, and repaired 1,300 leaks, saving 15,000 m3 of water per day. At that stage, the company had 70+ direct employees and over 25 delivery teams focused on new mains installation, mains rehabilitation, leak detection and repairs. The workforce has since expanded to over 90 people with 66 supply chain crews, with further recruitment planned in 2026 across placements, graduates and apprentices.
The long-term pipeline has also supported investment in new premises, with offices opened in Sligo, Letterkenny and Claregalway over the past two years. Operations are coordinated from a main office in Monaghan, home to a large operational and support team.
For Best Place to Work, Farrans focused on Employee Engagement and Experience; Health, Safety and Wellbeing initiatives; Learning, Development and Career Progression; and measurable outcomes for employees.
Earlier this year, the company's Health and Wellbeing Committee launched an Employee Health and Wellbeing Fund to support team-based activities across projects, departments and fixed locations — an investment in people, culture and long-term performance.
Brian White, Contracts Manager, Farrans said: "This year our team of 90 working on our Uisce Eireann framework have benefited from the support packages provided by our company in many ways. Some of the most impactful have been our volunteering events – revitalising the gardens at Brookvale House and planting apple trees in partnership with Monaghan Volunteering centre. We have also had great days out for team bonding with Go Karting, Indoor Baseball, Basketball and a summer BBQ."
