Northern Ireland Water has completed work on an £8 million investment programme for the Moira area.
A major part of the investment is the new distribution link - the Moira Trunk Main - that runs from Maghaberry reservoir to Lurgan.
The 13 km stretch of mains will improve and upgrade the water supply infrastructure in Moira and the surrounding area, and the water service said the investment will enhance the level of service that customers receive.
It will also facilitate population growth, while ensuring that an effective infrastructure is in place to accommodate economic development.
Moira residents are expected to experience a number of benefits following this major investment, including improved security of supply, pressure and quality of drinking water and a reduction in the number of bursts/leaks.
Gary Curran, NI Water, Project Sponsor said: "The Moira Trunk Main is part of our Water Mains Rehabilitation programme for the South East region.
"There were two separate stages in the construction process. Initially, localised distribution mains work was undertaken in Moira to enhance the network infrastructure that connects to the Trunk Main.
"The second stage of work began in early 2008, which saw pipe-laying through a series of fields and roads. The main towns that will benefit from this work include Maghaberry, Moira, Magheralin, Dollingstown and Lurgan.
"We are delighted that this project has been completed on schedule, and within a very short time frame. I would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation throughout the works."
The project was undertaken in partnership with Enterprise Farrans and Atkins consultants, and is part of NI Water’s ongoing £80 million Water Mains Rehabilitation Programme, which will result in the upgrading of over 1,000 kilometres of water mains throughout Northern Ireland.
