Louth Water Supply Set For Significant Upgrades

Construction News Image
Upgrades are set to get underway on the water supply in Tallanstown, Co Louth.

Irish Water and Louth County Council are joining forces to replace 1.5km of old, cast iron water mains along the R171, Louth Hall and R166. GMC Utilities Ltd will serve as contractor for the works.

The old mains will be replaced with new, modern pipes to provide a safer, more reliable water supply for the area while also improving water quality for customers. The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply.

To facilitate the safe delivery of these works and to minimise disruption to the local community, works will be completed in short sections. Traffic management will be in place and local and emergency access will be maintained.

Speaking about the works, Matt Thomson, Irish Water's Regional Lead, commented: "We are delighted to be progressing with these vital upgrades for the local community in Tallanstown. The new water mains will reduce high levels of leakage and ensure a more secure water supply to homes and businesses."

He added: "We understand this type of work can be inconvenient and we will ensure our crews make every effort to minimise any disruption these upgrade works might cause.

"We would like to thank the people of Tallanstown in advance for their patience and cooperation while we work to completed these upgrades as quickly as possible and improve their water quality and supply."

The works are expected to be completed by the end of March 2022.
