A new community allotment scheme has been launched at Riverstown Business Park, Crobally Upper, Tramore, creating a shared space for residents and community groups to grow fresh produce, enjoy nature and develop sustainable gardening skills.
The land has been leased from Waterford City and County Council, with €80,000 provided by the Department of Rural and Community Development through the Community Recognition Fund 2024.
The facility offers 48 individual plots alongside fully accessible raised beds, rainwater harvesting, on-site composting and shared tools. Several plots are assigned to local organisations, including Tramore Revive, the Marine Drive Residents Association, Tramore Men’s Shed and GIY.
Cllr Lola O'Sullivan, Mayor of the Metropolitan District of Waterford, officially opened the allotments, with music from the Barrack Street Concert Band. All plots are taken for the current growing season, but applications are being accepted for a waiting list. The site will also host workshops on sustainable living, biodiversity and climate action.
